Children's size reference
Children's sizing is anchored to age and height, not body shape — which makes it the most consistent system to convert internationally. Use the height column whenever possible.

Buy by height, not age
Two children of the same age can differ by 10 cm in height. European brands label by height in centimetres (e.g. 110) for exactly this reason — use that column whenever you have a recent height measurement.
Toddler vs little kid shoes
US sizing splits children's shoes into Toddler (T), Little Kid and Big Kid (Y for Youth). A US 13C and a US 1Y are adjacent sizes — the system restarts at 1.
Allow growth room
Most paediatric guidance is to leave 1.5 cm of room at the toe in a new shoe. Children's feet typically grow half a size every 2–3 months until age four, then slower.
European preschool sizing
Many European preschools require labelled shoes in EU sizes. If you're buying from US brands, use the foot-length column rather than the US Y/C label to avoid mistakes.
Common questions
- What does the 'T' after a US toddler size mean?
- T stands for Toddler. US sizing runs 2T, 3T, 4T to differentiate from later 'Little Kid' sizes labelled simply 5, 6, 7.
- Is EU 110 the same as US 5?
- Roughly. EU 110 is the height in centimetres that the garment fits, while US 5 is age-based. Both target a child around 5 years old, but height is the more reliable column.
