CM on a Shoe Box Is Not Always Your Foot Length

2 min read · Updated October 27, 2026

A CM or JP label can differ from measured foot length. Use the brand’s heel-to-toe column rather than treating a box label as a universal ruler.

Nike explicitly separates the two numbers

Nike’s published footwear charts warn that CM on shoe boxes and labels is different from Foot Length (cm). The chart’s CM/JP row is a label conversion; the foot-length row is the measurement used to select a size. Confusing them can produce a wrong recommendation even when the arithmetic is correct.

Measure first; read the correct row second

Measure heel to longest toe on both feet as the brand instructs. Record the number without adding an arbitrary allowance. Match that measurement to the chart’s foot-length guidance, then read across to the US, UK or EU label you need. Do not add toe room again if the manufacturer already accounts for it in the fit range.

Centimeters are a unit, not a guarantee

Mondopoint is a measurement-based sizing system, but a retailer printing cm does not prove that every product follows the same measurement convention. Shoe interior length, insole length, last length and foot length are different quantities. A seller should say which one a chart uses.

Ask when a listing is ambiguous

If a listing only says 27 cm without identifying the measurement, do not infer an exact foot fit. Find the official chart or ask the retailer whether the figure is a size label or measured heel-to-toe length. A generic converter can narrow your search, not settle this ambiguity.

Before you order

  1. Write down measured foot length and the shoe-box label separately.
  2. Look for Foot Length, heel-to-toe or the manufacturer’s equivalent heading.
  3. Follow the chart’s between-size instructions.
  4. Confirm fit notes for the current model.

Frequently asked questions

Does JP 27 always fit a 27 cm foot?
Not across all brands and charts. Confirm whether JP is a label row or measured foot-length guidance.
Should I measure the insole instead?
An insole is not the same as your foot or the usable interior space. Use the manufacturer’s requested measurement.
