Mondopoint: The Only Sizing System That Makes Sense

2 min read · Updated July 2, 2026

Mondopoint isn't a competing sizing system so much as the answer to why we need sizing systems at all. It states foot length in millimeters. That's the entire specification.

The idea

A Mondopoint size is a pair of numbers: foot length in mm and foot width in mm, separated by a slash. 270/100 means a 270 mm foot at 100 mm width. Most consumer products drop the width and use just the length: 270, or 27.0 in centimeters.

Where it's used

  • Japan and Korea (all footwear).
  • Ski boots and mountaineering boots worldwide.
  • NATO military boot procurement.
  • Skate boots (mostly).

Why fashion ignores it

Retail is conservative. Athletic and fashion brands publish cm ranges but keep US/EU labels because customers recognize their number. A shift to Mondopoint would require re-educating every customer at once — no brand wants to lead that.

Frequently asked questions

Is Mondopoint metric only?
Yes, it uses millimeters exclusively.
What does the second number mean?
Foot width in mm. Standard widths run 90-104 mm; wider than 104 is 'extra wide'.
