Japanese Sizes Explained

Japanese footwear commonly uses metric labels, while clothing uses product-specific numbers and letters. Compare the regional chart rather than a fixed country offset.
Metric shoe labels require a definition
A JP or CM label is not universally identical to measured foot length. Nike explicitly distinguishes its CM label from Foot Length. Follow the measured-foot chart for the manufacturer.
Regional clothing charts matter
UNIQLO says sizing differs between markets. A Japanese-origin brand does not necessarily use the same letter chart on a US website as in Japan. Compare the regional product measurements.
Ignore unsupported body stereotypes
There is no universal Japanese Medium body height or weight that determines every garment’s fit. Measurements, cut and fabric are more useful than assuming a fixed one- or two-letter shift.
Check the order’s actual chart
Save the chart for the regional listing you are buying. Confirm units and whether measurements describe a body or a finished garment.
