Italian offset

IT = EU + 2

EU shoe sizes use the Paris Point: 2/3 of a centimeter (6.67 mm) per size. The scale is linear from infant sizes to adult, and traditionally has no half sizes โ€” though athletic brands like Adidas and New Balance introduced half sizes to match the US grid.

EU clothing sizes are set by EN 13402 to specific body measurements: EU 38 women's = 88 cm bust. Italian sizing adds 2 to the EU number (IT 40 = EU 38); French sizing also adds 2 (FR 38 = EU 36). All three appear on tags in EU stores.

Common pitfalls

  • Traditional EU has no half sizes; athletic brands add them โ€” Nike's EU 43 is not Adidas's EU 43.
  • Italian and French clothing labels differ from generic EU โ€” check the country of origin.
  • EN 13402 is a standard, not a mandate; not every EU brand follows it.
